General Announcements
A warm welcome to all who worship with us. May the joy and peace of God's spirit touch each of our lives as we worship, so that, being blessed, we may reach out to others in love.
Visitors, Friends, and Members, when worshipping with us, please take a moment to sign and pass the friendship attendence folders in your pew. This allows us to collect statistical data required by the Presbyterian Church.
Childcare is available for infants through 2 year olds in the Nursury in Covnant's Fellowship Hall. 3-6 year olds may go to the preschool classroom following "Sharing Time." You are welcome to keep your children in the church with you, if you wish. There is a soundproof "Cry Room" available at the back of the sanctuary. The service may be heard in the cry room, and is adjustable through a volume knob on the wall.
Hearing Assistance Units and Large-print Hyminals are available from the ushers for those who require them. Please feel free to ask for them.
Please join us for a time of refreshment and conversation in Fellowship Hall following worship. There's always good food, coffee, and people found here.
Worship Experience
Worshipping the Lord at Covenant is a very moving experience. The sanctuary is a hexagonal design with three aisles of pews with the choir pews off to the side. Ceiling height windows totally surround the sanctuary, allowing rays of light enter and illuminate from 360 degrees. Worshippers get lost in thought gazing out of ground level windows looking at the beautiful mountains, trees, vinyards, and flowers. The feeling one gets while here is light, airey, and warm.
The acoustics of the sanctuary are very good, allowing everything to be heard from every pew. For those who hearing problems, hearing aids with headphones are available. A typical service opens with a Processional Hymn followed by announcments, the Call to Worship, and Prayer of Confession and Assurance of Forgiveness. We are a warm, friendly church who like to greet one another with a handshake or hug, and do this during the service as Sharing God's Peace. There is a time for Pastor Deana to teach the children before they head off to Sunday school. Then scripture from the Old and New Testaments is read followed by the choral anthem, and the Sermon. After the Sermon, the offering is collected and the Prayers of the People are read and the Lord's Prayer recited. The first Sunday of each month, the Sacrament of Holy Communion is served, followed by a closing hymn and Benediction.
Although we follow this typical Order of Worship, Covenant is by no means rigid. We look forward to special events and the little inconsistencies that happen each Sunday. The best example of this is when the children go up to hear the children's message. To use a cliche', "children say and do the darndest things."
